Post Mortem Management by Deanna Foster (Paperback)

Death, or Dennis, as he prefers in this age, has spent his eternity preserving the balance amongst the realms of mortality and the afterlife. A tireless keeper of endings, he guides souls from life to death, and keeps the fragile order between realms intact. But when the gods begin to turn against the balance, the order fractures. The dead multiply. Demons rebel. And the living tremble in the face of a pandemic.

Scarlet, his mortal assistant for the last five years, has always been a steady light in his endless routine. Unshaken by the horrors of her post, Dennis depends on her more than he admits, and draws her deeper into the unraveling crisis. He tells himself it is only because of her skills and loyalty, and nothing to do with the rapidly crumbling line between duty and desire.

As divine conspiracies and family betrayals unravel, the safety of Scarlet, and the world, grows dangerously uncertain. Before long, Dennis and Scarlet are not only fighting for survival, but for the souls of all humankind, as the gods wage war against humanity’s only defender: Death.
